Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
Christmas is upon us and I can't wait! Pressies all wrapped, kids are excited, Christmas films to watch and a chance for me to put my feet up and reflect on what a wonderful fulfilling year myself, the Kate Campbell Fitness team and our clients have had.
This year there will be Christmas dinner for 14 with Turkey...stuffing... mince pies...Christmas pudding and all the trimmings.
If you pick up a magazine or watch TV you will have seen that this can add up to 7000 calories on Christmas day alone - that's 5 days worth of food - wow! It's not difficult to see why our waist line expand.
Will the trainer be good on Christmas day?
I could lie and say yes, only one roast potato will pass my lips, and I'll only have fruit for pudding! However this really wont be the case.
I will enjoy my food on Christmas day, like we all should regardless of whether you want to lose a few pounds or not. Remember one day of eating more than usual will not make you gain weight...however if you have a week or 2 or 3 (lets be honest there will be treats left over for weeks) of over indulging then it's often hard to get back on track and that spare tyre around your middle will leave you feeling deflated when you come to zip up a dress or button a suit for New Year.
So what are my top tips for a healthy but satisfying Christmas?
1. Cut back a few days before, calories matter when it comes to weight loss or maintaining so limiting yourself to low calorie foods and no snacking before the big day will noticeably help.
2. Snack on fruit, nuts, seeds (not muffins, cakes chocolates or biscuits)
3. Exercise daily. Squats, lunges, press ups tricep dips can be performed in your PJ's!
o Try tabata 4 mins of exercise every day set your timer 20 secs work 10 secs rest perform each exercise before moving on rpt x 2 sets = 4 mins
o Speed squats
o Fast feet
o Press ups
o Star jumps
4. .Get out the games - I can highly recommend the following for fun calorie burning activities!
o Twister - core stability practice your plank this is the key to being crowned the champion!
o Bop it - knees, heads, thighs bums and hips are all popular places. (I am still the champion of this one)
o Charades - Titanic cannot be done sitting down, nor can The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe!
5. NUMBER ONE TIP: Don't feel the need to eat everything in sight before you get back on track. It's ok to give away boxes of chocolates or biscuits, or just leave them in your cupboard. You have a choice whether you eat it or not.
Above all else have a wonderful Christmas with your family loved ones and friends.
