Working Through My Postnatal Pathway With Kate

The female body is amazing!

I was blown away by my body changing every week during pregnancy and was so proud that I could grow a baby and continue to meet the demands of my active job, rock climb at 38 weeks, work out with Kate at 42 weeks and walk 6 miles the day before labour.

But I was also acutely aware that even though I was strong, pregnancy and labour take a toll on you and a graded approach was needed to get me back to where I wanted to be. There was no point hammering the running if it put too much strain on my weakened pelvic floor and led to heaviness and leaking. I knew I needed to start at the beginning with strengthening, aerobic work and balance and pair this with nutrition for recovery and breastfeeding.

I was in safe hands with Kate.

Working with Kate through the postnatal pathway helped me to rebuild myself and fall back in love with moving my body!

The pathway is a wonderful, graded approach starting with activating muscles that are weakened from carrying a baby and then going through labour and correcting postures from feeding, working back up to single leg work, bouncing, changing direction and ultimately getting to the point of lifting weights, running and jumping.

I am stronger now than I was pre baby. The weekly resources that Kate sends out keep you on track and I learned loads. The course gave me a wonderful mummy community and a platform to share advice.

I loved having access to the online members’ community - VIP Postnatal core restore and power Facebook group. Kate was always open to adding videos for people who couldn't make the class due to naps/feeds/life getting in the way and tips and pointers for specific queries.

By the end of the block of classes I felt like I hadn't even had a baby which was fantastic! I learned a lot on the way, including that my puppy likes chasing blossom (!!) and that I should feed/express before a run or the neighbours get an eye-full of wet patches, but my overall take-home message is that no matter your baseline fitness, you need a steady build- up with the right coaches.
