So many people from experts to regular mums on social media have an opinion and many of them differ! so it can become rather confusing – I’m here to answer the most common questions I get asked and hope to support your understanding a little more and ultimately give you some practical tips to support restoration of your abdominals the safe way.
1. What is Diastasis Recti?
It’s given many names including rectus diastasis, diastasis or abbreviated to DR or DRA.
Diastasis Recti is the thinning and widening of the connective tissue, called the linea alba between the rectus abdominis muscles AKA the six–pack. This causes the midline to bulge when intra – abdominal pressure is increased.

Commonly seen after pregnancy although there can be many more causes including rapid weight changes, poor abdominal control when lifting, poor posture, loaded exercise techniques, hernia and age.
